Tongenji Island experience and cost
When you hear of Island Especially when you live in lagos I'm sure the first thing that comes to your mind is V/I lekki ,Ajah axis, it is with great confidence that I tell you there is an Island in Ogun state .
Tongenji Island is located in ipokia local government of Ogun state, going to this island , you can either go through Badagry or through Idiroko route, I went through idi iroko
THE COST
From oshodi I took a bus going to toll gate and alighted at the last bus stop which cost #300 , from toll gate a bus took me to owode for #250 since I cannot get idiroko bus directly from there and on getting to owode I took another bus straight to idiroko for #300 , the immigrations on the road tried to delay our bus because according to them she doesn't look Nigerian.
Finally got to Idi iroko where I waited for 3hrs before the group I was going with showed up , another reason why I don't like group trip they are always late . Anyways they finally came and we negotiated for a bus that took 10 of us ,I don't know the actual amount but I know we each contributed #2000 to take us to the island and back to idi iroko so we move .it took us 75minues to Whecan ,Whecan Is the harbor we took our 50minutes boat ride to the island, but if you have been on a boat before you will know this one is canoe .
Tongeji is on a very large mass of hectares of land ,the actual figure ? I don't know since I didn't go with a measuring tape 🙄, they said there is crude oil there which explains the Naval officers at the harbor ,on entering the island you will see a sign post welcoming you to the island check my reels and my stories.
The population?walahi they are not up to one thousand and this is not surprising since there are no adequate social amenities on the island ,the king interpreter however told us that most of the indigene has relocated to either Benin republic or Port Novo which is less than five minutes drive from Tongeji .so if you are thinking of relocating to these countries 🤗 ,you are welcome.
Let it be known that my 1st picture with a King is with the The Akoko 1 of Tongeji ,my phobia ? We are getting rid of it one step at a time .
If The Government didn't pay attention to this island the Naval officers will end up owning it since the said Naval officers on duty didn't really Refrence the word of the king that much ,either because he is old or because the officers on duty were just unreasonable 🤷♀️
Just like every other island, the sand is white The sea water is brown ,I just concluded it is because of the crude oil. Coconut trees are everywhere
And of course as expected that have their gods that they worship.
I didn't see any market on the island so I'm guessing they have to come as far as Tube to get their basic needs because we did saw the market on our way to Whecan .
Planning on going to Tongeji please go with a travel buddy especially if you are a solo traveller , images are on my Instagram highlights stories as I am too lazy to export them all here check @2olas
